Now the guy IS paying some rent, so it's more grey area.
Although probably his own lease doesn't allow for subletting.

So the guy is there illegally, and the landlord could kick them both out after 30/60 days.

He could also give his friend 60 days written notice to get out first, then it would be totally okay.

The guy isn't on the lease, and has no utilities in his name at that address. It might be illegal, but he would have very little redress.

A lease isn't needed in VA. They just have to prove they've been living there (a piece of mail will usually be enough). In which case you can't give them less than 30 days to leave (and a judge may rule that you have to give them longer).

Like I said, I don't know NH laws. I am familiar with VA laws, and you can't kick someone out without 30 days notice regardless if you have a lease or not.

I got into it with my landlord last year, and he told me "You aren't on a lease, get the hell out right now!" I replied "I would GLADLY leave in the next 30 days and not one second before!"

He was pissed, but realized pretty quick that I wasn't like the old country drunks and illegal immigrants he usually rents to and couldn't jerk me around like that. We were cool until he demanded that I pay him an extra $75 a month (my ass!) .

Count, it's difficult to find a girl with good connections (this one's dad isn't an owner or anything, he's just another worker at the company who put in a good word for the guy) due to them not frequenting the places people who are poor frequent.




On the subject of legal madness:

Thank God he doesn't get mail here, have keys or any utilities. He's paying not so much a "rent" as he is paying a "bothering me, lots" fee. Weekly. He's also not particularly intelligent, and probably unwilling to take legal action if I did kick him out. He might take a swing at me though, but that's just based on his constant tough talk of "I totally would have hit this guy if [stupid reason to risk an assault charge]."

I have discerned that he was lying about the person he was picking up (his girlfriend told me) and so now I have all the reason in the world to take my ball car and go home, which I think I'll do. The only problem is he won't be able to get to work very well since he works quite a distance away, but he was getting rides before so he can start getting them again.

I don't think there's any legal issue with me kicking him out, there's no proof he lived here aside from his shit in my once-home office. I had to move my computer out because he sleeps at weird ass times, and not once did he say "oh you don't need to do that, I don't mean to be a burden."

There are seriously people like him who live in this world.

I am putting myself at personal risk to have this guy here since the landlord COULD kick me out if he found out, but I'm very good with rent and keeping the place nice so that's pretty unlikely. It just pisses me off that he's been ungrateful, disrespectful and just all-around awful. My favorite part is when he gets pissy for some reason (man-period?) and sulks around, making me feel weird in my own home.

I'm excited to not have to see him ever again, and will be throwing the Best Damn Christmas Party Ever™ once he's gone.

Most landlord-tenant law allows for a 24-hour notice when there are drugs, gambling, or prostitution involved.

You need line of effect first, though. It isn't tough to get line of effect to greasy skanks, but well-off girls can be more difficult. To obtain this I suggest hanging out at a college or joining a tennis club.

A lot of places also allow shorter notice (typically 3 days) for nonpayment of rent.

I'd like to get a second opinion on a map I'm working on for a project. I'm taking ArcGIS (mapping software) classes at school, and I thought I'd use the Term Project to produce something potentially useful to my employer. The map is supposed to show the number of people living near specific East Bay Regional Park District parks that may get some new signs at key sites from the New Deal work project that helped build up much of the park infrastructure.

This is my second draft, and I added enough stuff that I'm a little worried that there could be a visual clutter problem keeping the map from clearly conveying its message. Thoughts?

Yes. The 3 darker green (labeled) parks are the ones that may receive new signs. The lighter green (unlabled) parks there to provide context to the viewer, so the Wildcat Canyon area is not mistaken for urban space.

My professor suggested showing the cities when I gave him my first draft. Population is derived by summing values attached to each city data point, so a slight shift in the boundaries of the buffer zone around the parks could produce dramatic shifts in the displayed population value if it covered or uncovered cities.

True. And I think there's some stuff I can do about that. I already fiddled with the labels to keep multiple identical park names showing up, so it wouldn't require huge changes.

That would be something you'd probably want to put on the key.

If it were me, I would do something like make the county names fainter, slightly larger, and italic... Sort of a watermark feeling so they don't compete as much visually, but the information is there.

There's 3 parks that will be affected by the project alluded to in the map.
- Category A is people near at least 1 of the 3.
- Category B is people near all 3 of the 3

I just submitted the academic version of this assignment, but it may be as long as 1-3 weeks until I end up using some version of this map at work. Part of the term project involved doing a fairly detailed write-up of what I did during the course of the project, and the uploaded document can be found here:

Tomorrow, I'm going to try and tweak the map file, taking your feedback into account. There's plenty of space for me to add a key, and I should be able to do something about the markers and labels for the cities.

Checking out a lunar eclipse at 5 in the morning. Kinda nice. Took a computer break after coming home and trying to convince other family members to go up the hill.

My mother-in-law bought us a compact, ventless dryer for Christmas!!!! It came early yesterday, so we set it up to test it out. In the course of just over half an hour, Giovanni opened it, looked inside, and informed me that it was empty 118 times.

At the 30th, I was getting over being annoyed, but only mildly amused. By 50, I had started laughing. At somewhere near 70, I was laughing so hard I was crying.

This morning my stomach still hurts.

But I was trying to point out more that he's into the age, of really making sure that I know what's going on. Last week, he brought me his fire truck and told me 32 times that it was a fire truck. And it doesn't matter how many times I agree with him or repeat what he says, he just says it again.

He was really excited about the dryer. I suppose it could be really annoying, but he's so earnest and cute that I end up laughing hysterically instead.

It probably helps on the annoyance factor that he's *your* kid.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. Gio is so energetic that him overwhelming his parents seems natural.

Well, I gained ~17kg from my inactivity during the broken arm saga. So I'm signing up for a diet program thing that has previously worked for my sister, and I intend on sticking to it until I'm in the middle of the "healthy" range.

That said, it's not only low-fat, low-sugar, low-protein, low-carbs, it's also low-caffeine. I've been off the coke for a while now, but this does limit the amount of non-herbal (ie normal) tea. Yeah, seriously, they put a limit on flavoured water.

Anyway, as it is, I tend to sleep 12-16 hours a day (12 minimum, with a possibility of napping in the afternoon). That's with all this sugar and caffeine. So there is a possibility I will spend 20+ hours a day asleep. Which I'm kind of okay with, because being asleep is basically the happiest time of all. I say that not as a depressed person but simply as an adult, I'm pretty sure most people feel that way.

Doesn't meth help people lose weight super-quick? Do they sell that in stores, or is it a pharmacy thing?

In the US, at least, you can get diagnosed with ADD pretty easily (especially if you actually have it), and then get a prescription for amphetamine (which is way less likely to rot your teeth than meth). Your weight will drop if you take the stuff, but it will go back up if you stop. The bright side is that, if it turns out that you have ADD, it will make your life much easier. And you will sleep much less, unless your brain chemistry is seriously and bizarrely fucked.

Just remember that too much will make you really obnoxious, and way[/i] too much will make you psychotic and/or psychopathic.
